Highlights from CIRCUIT’s Technical Meeting in Madrid

Last week, CIRCUIT partners ZAG and IECA gathered in Madrid for a technical meeting focused on advancing sustainable construction practices.

The visit began at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Madrid. IECA introduced ZAG to the innovative research and developments underway at the construction materials laboratory. One of the highlights was the concrete prototypes embedded with sensors, developed as part of CIRCUIT’s ongoing efforts to create new methods for monitoring and tracking product data. These sensors aim to provide valuable insights into concrete’s performance over time, enabling future reuse and contributing to CIRCUIT’s goals of fostering a circular economy in construction.

Following the lab visit, the team held a detailed meeting on the Slovenian pilot project, exchanging ideas and exploring alternative recycled materials for 3D printing bridge safety walls. This part of the discussion focused on identifying materials that balance durability, safety, and environmental impact, ensuring the project’s resilient and eco-friendly infrastructure solutions.

The day concluded at IECA’s headquarters, where the teams discussed the next steps, shared progress updates, and strengthened their collaboration for upcoming phases of the CIRCUIT project.

This technical visit marks a significant step forward in CIRCUIT’s mission to transform infrastructure construction through sustainable practices, innovation, and resource reuse. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to work towards a resilient and sustainable future in Europe’s infrastructure sector!
